Lifestyle

In 2016 I was given a wonderful gift. I was able to step away from work and take a much needed break.  During my break, my father, whom I loved dearly, passed away from cancer. This had a profound effect on me. I decided to use my work break to educate myself on disease prevention. I have a Master’s Degree in Public Health with a concentration in health behaviors so this was not a new topic for me. But I wanted to take time to fully explore it and really dig into the research. Three years and much study later, I have come away with a new appreciation for the importance of lifestyle in preventing disease and living a long, active, healthy life. I have become a real believer in Lifestyle Medicine.

Lifestyle medicine uses evidenced based therapeutic approaches  to prevent, treat and often reverse the chronic diseases that plague so many people. Even if you are already ill, lifestyle interventions can help.

“Your body has a remarkable capacity to heal itself if you give it a chance to do so and quickly.”

– Dr. Dean Ornish, pioneer in Lifestyle Medicine and author of Undo It

The pillars of lifestyle medicine include:

  • A Healthy Diet
  • Exercise
  • Managing Stress Well
  • Adequate and restful sleep
  • Healthy social relationships (Giving and receiving love)

Through health coaching and speaking, I am doing what I can to encourage healthy lifestyle behaviors to help more people live abundant, healthy lives filled with passion, energy, purpose and joy!
