Turmeric has been used for medicinal purposes for 3000 years and for good reason. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-angiogenic properties. Studies have shown turmeric may be protective against everything from cancer, to depression, to arthritis to Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Greger in his book, How Not To Die (one of my favorites), suggests 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric per day. I have created this recipe with that amount in mind. I try to enjoy this tasty snack once per day.
2 Tablespoons Ground Turmeric
2 Teaspoons Ground Smoked Paprika
2 Teaspoons Garlic Granules
1/2 Teaspoon Salt (leave out if you are avoiding salt)
1 Teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
Mix all ingredients well with a whisk then transfer mixture to a shaker. I like to use an empty old herb/spice jar that has been washed and dried or you could use a salt shaker.
Pop organic popcorn in an air popper then drizzle popcorn with a bit of high quality olive oil and sprinkle liberally with the turmeric seasoning. Sprinkle on a bit more ground pepper before enjoying as black pepper greatly increases the amount of turmeric absorbed by the body. Be sure to wash your hands well after enjoying this snack as turmeric will stain your fingers – and anything you touch – a vibrant yellow/orange!
